Kangna Ranaut was born on 20 March 1984 at Bhambla, Himachal Pradesh. She lived in Shimla and Chandigarh before moving to New Delhi. She did her schooling at the DAV Model School in Chandigarh. She went on to study at the Science College in Shimla and was interested in becoming a doctor. She moved to New Delhi and joined the Elite Modelling Agency but her modeling career did not take off.<br />Kangna decided to re-locate to Bombay, and lived in a flat in Yari Road, Versova. Her attempts at acting in Bollywood movies were unsuccessful.
